Blue phases decorated with colloidal particles: photonic crystals

The recent efforts to understand self-assembly of 'soft' photonic colloidal crystals in intrinsic disclination networks of body centered and face centered cubic lattices of blue phases I and II are briefly reviewed.

Author Biography

Slobodan Zumer, University of Ljubljana

Slobodan Zumer received BSc and PhD (1973) from the University of Ljubljana. Presently, he is a professor of physics at the University of Ljubljana, and the head of the research program ?Physics of soft matter, surfaces, and nanostructures? at Josef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia. In 2008 he also started his four term as a president of the International Liquid Crystal Society. His research interests are modeling, simulations, and theory of soft mater systems that include, liquid crystals, polymers, nematic elastomers, colloids, etc.
